Loupes are Magnification glasses worn by Medical, Dental and Veterinary profesionals.
The Loupe is made up of the Frame and Telescopes with Lenses.
The Telescopes are positioned according to the users requested parameters, thus allowing them to focus on an object, with magnification, whilst maintaining the optimal working position.
The two major types of Loupes are: Through-The-Lens (TTL) and Flip-Up.
Loupe lenses are avilable in a range of magnifications most comonly 2.5x, 3.0x, 3.5x.
Research has found that professionals who wear loupes experience:
- More accurate interpretation of clinical findings.
- Higher quality of treatment outcomes.
- Increased efficiency of treatments.
- Increased overall quality of patient care.
- Improved operating posture.
- Reduced muscle strain.

It is important to know the main things to look for when deciding to purchase Loupes.
This will allow you to choose a setup that will work best for our specific requiremnts.
Our Getting Started pages will give you more information, however here are some introductory points to consider:
The Frame:
plastic - this is similar to the material used in bullet shields.
The Lens:
abberation (colour distortion),
Magnification allows the clinician to enhance what he or she sees, thus allowing for more precise treatment, and achievement of better overall treatment outcome.
The essential component of achieving magnification is the lens.
OptiLoupe lenses have been developed in close cooperation with clinical professionals, as ultimately these are the best people to decide the exact specifications required. Each lens is tailored to each individual thus offering optimal field and depth of view at a selected magnification, whilst being extremely small and lightweight.
OptiLoupe lenses are able to work in a wide range of settings, from general use (e.g. general medical and dental use), to more specialist environments (e.g. complex surgeries/ precision dental treatments). OptiLoupe lenses are available in 2.5x, 3.0x and 3.5x magnification. Other magnifications available on request.
No Magnification
Working Distance is the normal distance between the eye and work area being focused on.
Setting the working distance to individual requirements allows the user to achieve optimal magnification at a distance from the patient that suits them. All OptiLoupe lenses are specially engineered to each individuals specification.
OptiLoupe lens working distances can be set between 290mm-700mm.
Recording the correct working distance is a simple process. Please contact us for further information on how to measure your working distance accurately.
Interpupillary Distance is the distance between the pupils of the eye.
Setting the Interpupillary Distance to individual requirements allows for optimal visualization to be achieved for each individual.
Please contact us for further information on how to measure your interpupillary distance accurately.
It is important to ensure that your Loupes are fully tailored to your needs, especially if your normal vision relies on the use of either:
• Prescription Spectacles
• Contact Lenses
The New OptiLoupe frame is capable of integrating a prescription insert.
It neatly integrates into the frame when required, and can be easily removed if you choose to wear contact lenses.
The prescription insert can be changed at any point should your prescription change without the need to send your OptiLoupes back to us. This makes the OptiLoupe a very affordable long term investment.
A crucial component of any Loupe unit.
The OptiLoupe Frame is constructed from Polycarbonate reinforced with Alloy, making it Strong and Lightweight. This is especially important when working for long operations/ procedures, where lightweight comfort is paramount.
We understand that advanced practitioners are increasingly concerned about the image they portray to their patients. Therefore the frame has been ergonomically designed to look the part in every modern clinical setting. The new frame is avilable in 3 colours.
Each frame is designed ready to accept our unique Prescription Insert. This allows clinicians to add and remove a prescription by a simple clipping mechanism. Making each frame truly future proof!
Every frame is covered by the OptiLoupe Warranty scheme.

Optimal Ilumination:
The OptiLightHD emits an impressive high intensity collimated beam at 40,000 lux (3600 foot candles or 114 Lumens/watt).
The light has been refined to achieve a colour ratio of true white light that is most suitable for examination, diagnosis and treatment within any clinical and non-clinical setting. This is known as the colour temperature and has been calibrated just above 6000K.
Anti-Glare Lens
The OptiLightHD has been designed with both user and patient in mind.
Whilst offering the ultimate illumination output for any LED loupe light in its class, the OptiLightHD is also one of the most comfortable lights for patients.
Where many LED Loupe Lights leave patients blinded by the startling glare the OptiLightHD uses an integrated anti-glare lens which allows the primary light beam to be diffracted to prevent direct glare.
Crystal Focus
The high intensity light beam is collimated into a focused beam.
At a distance of approximately 50cm from the subject, the OptiLightHD achieves a spot focus of 2 inches. This means that there is minimal diffraction or scatter of light, allowing maximum light to be localised on the intended focus area.
The crystal focus means a higher intensity and quality of light can be pin-pointed to the working area, thus making examination, diagnosis and treatment more effective.
Composite Filter
Many materials used in the Dental, Medical and Veterinary setting are now activated by light, especially at the wavelength of 470nm.
In order to prevent the OptiLightHD beam from affecting the setting of these materials, we have developed a sophisticated filtration mechanism that filters out the majority of 470nm wavelength light.
The orange composite filter neatly attaches onto the front of the OptiLightHD lens and can be adjusted easily with its slide around mechanism.
Users must however note that any additional light source can have limited effect on the setting of light cured material, and we recommend that all light sources (including overhead light) are turned off during the placement of light curable materials.
Long Life Battery
The OptiLightHD is powered by high intensity Lithium compound battery. These highest performance batteries are also used in products such as tablet computers and mobile phones like the iPhone.
The battery unit can allow the OptiLightHD to deliver a continuous level of light output for up to 6 hours before requiring a full re-charge. Typical recharge times range between 1 hour and 3.5 hours depending on the charge level remaining. The charge level indicators on the battery pack itself clearly show when its time to re-charge!
The slender OptiLightHD battery measures 800mm x 500mm x 150mm and weighs only 143g (very similar to that of an iPhone4). It can be held discretely within a trouser or clinical garment pocket, or alternatively clipped on with the integrated belt clip.
Frame Attachments
We have designed the OptiLightHD to be fully compatible with our entire loupe range, as well as any other Loupe manufacturer frames.
We have a range of clips and mechanisms to work with most the following styles of Loupes as well as many others. Please contact us directly if you would like more information on integrating OptiLightHD with your existing loupes.
